This past Friday on Christmas Eve, we were honored to have been invited to film at two of Detroit’s iconic historical churches for our 2022 holiday PBS film, Detroit: The City of Churches.
We started our day out filming the Christmas Eve mass at Basilica of Ste. Anne de Detroit. Clearly one of Detroit’s most stunning historical houses of worship. The diverse community of Hispanics along with those who travel from the suburbs were treated to a powerful service led by Msgr. Chuck Kosanke. The congregation was treated to singing by vocalist Madeleine Krick and violin playing by violinist Nathaniel Cornell, along with the organ playing musical director Joe Moss.
We then packed ourselves up and made our way to the Historic Trinity Lutheran Church on Gratiot. There, Head Pastor, Rev. Darryl Lee Andrzejewski, led his congregation in a powerful touching sermon. The choir and horn section delivered a memorable evening of music that touched you to your spiritual core.
Their evening concluded with a singing of “Silent Night” where the entire congregation sang along as they held candles in the dimly lit house of worship. Parishioners were then able to tour the many rooms filled with Christmas displays.
Thank you to both of these churches for this truly special evening. We are thrilled that these two Christmas services will be featured in our two hour film, Detroit: The City of Churches.
