We filmed at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament which is the seat of the Archbishop of Detroit and the mother church of the Archdiocese.

We interviewed Father J.J. Mech who eloquently described the history of the church and its significance to the Archdiocese. We also discussed how these historical churches were first built with the intention to amaze and bring awe and wonder to those who would walk by or in the church and be taken aback by the glory and grandeur that they possess.

We sat with Sister Barbara Dakoske, who once was the head of the Home Visitors of Mary order who described the different groups of nuns within each church including the Felicians, Franciscans, Immaculate Heart of Mary, etc. We’re excited to share more information on this in the film as nuns are an integral part of the church.

We were honored to have been able to sit down with the Archbishop of Detroit Allen H. Vigneron. Vigneron echoed themes on the purpose of the architecture as well as the important roles that nuns hold when it comes to healthcare and education within the community. He also shared his thoughts on how the many churches from all walks of faith have impacted Detroit’s history.

From the intricate architecture with the material used, the way that it delivers sound to every corner, the smell from the incense burning, the artistry that encompasses every wall and window, it truly feels like a magical place. So often we take for granted these beautiful structures, forgetting what the true purpose is, community and bringing people together. This time and energy and intricacy is done with the intention of bringing people closer to God, and that they do.
