In recognition of the relationship between Canada and the United States, Historic Trinity Lutheran Church hosts a Freedom Festival which offers several services on the weekend of June 26th where they celebrate the joint freedoms of Canada and America. This celebration takes place in a bold way thanks to the help of St. Andrew's Society Pipe Band of Detroit led by David Martin. The group uses what are called Great Highland bagpipes, which is a type of bagpipe native to Scotland. There is a nine-note range on that Great Highland bagpipe, no octaves, no sharps, and no flats.

As the bagpipers moved up and down the aisles, both at the beginning and end of the service, one could feel the rich culture in this historic German designed house of worship.

We are thrilled to be able to add this historical shout out to our sister country just next door over the bridge.
