“There are those who are Polish and there are those who wish they were Polish,” one of the congregation members proclaimed while we were filming the annual Sweetest Heart of Mary Pierogi Festival on the grounds of the largest Roman Catholic Church in Detroit and what so many will argue is the most prestigious and beautiful church in the Detroit Archdiocese.

The pierogis were coming off the grill hot and tender filled with potato or cheese and if you weren’t stuffed enough from those, you could move onto the braised sweet stuffed cabbage, Kielbasa, sauerkraut, or the traditional side dishes of potato pancakes.

Then you could burn off some of those carbs on the dancefloor for some traditional polka served up by one of Michigan's most beloved bands, The Polish Muslims.

All of this is a wonderful opportunity for the congregations of the Mother of Divine Mercy Parish and the local Polish community to come together to raise funds for the ever ongoing renovation and maintenance of their houses of God.

We are thrilled we can feature this festive sector of our community in our film.
